A long time ago…

Before life began, before the world had form, three golden goddesses descended upon the chaotic land of Hyrule. They were Din, the Goddess of Power, Nayru, the Goddess of Wisdom, and Farore, the Goddess of Courage.

Din, with Her strong flaming arms, cultivated the land to create the earth. Nayru poured Her wisdom onto the earth to give the spirit of law to the world. Farore’s rich soul created all life forms who would uphold the law.

These three great goddesses returned to the heavens, leaving behind the golden sacred Triforce.

The Triforce was sealed in the Sacred Realm connected to Hyrule. The legends also say that whoever holds the Triforce can make their wishes come true, but only if s/he has the perfect balance between the three forces: Power, Wisdom, and Courage. If someone without the right balance lays his or her hand on the Triforce, it will split into three pieces. The one touching the Triforce will hold the force that he or she most believes in, and the two other parts will be given to persons chosen by destiny to carry the Triforce-part that they represent. The persons who carry the Triforce or a part of it can be recognized by the Triforce symbol on their hands.

History

Long ago, in the beautiful kingdom of Hyrule surrounded by mountains and forests... legends told of an omnipotent and omniscient Golden Power that resided in a hidden land.
Many people aggressively sought to enter the hidden Golden Land... But no one ever returned. One day evil power began to flow from the Golden Land...
So the King commanded Hyrule's Seven Sages to seal the gate to the Land of the Golden Power. That seal should have remained for all time...
...But, when these events were obscured by the mists of time and became legend...
A mysterious wizard known as Eferion came to Hyrule to release the seal. He eliminated the good King of Hyrule...
Through evil magic, he began to make descendants of the Seven Sages vanish, one after another.
And the time of destiny for Princess Zelda is drawing near.

Look not to the skies, nor the depths below, nor even the distant past or future. Seek the divine within, for the blood is the life, and in its call can be heard the promise of eternal life. One has but to listen.

It rained cold and heavily that night, and not a hand could be seen from inches away through the mist. Darkness descended upon Hyrule.

The Masked Man waltzed through the halls with a confident stride, and with each attempt from the Knights of Hyrule, he made one step closer to the King's Chamber. He came upon two armed men at the entrance, and their halberds crossed; from behind the mask he smirked. A short click of the tongue indicated his amusement, but it only lasted seconds. One hand rose and the guard standing opposite was hoisted into the air; he grasped for air while his legs kicked uselessly. The other was thrown into an opposing wall with terrifying force, taking a table and flowers along with him.

"The key," the Masked Man said to the flailing guard. The latter struggled, but in his attempt to breathe managed an indignant growl, unwavering loyalty to the Hylian Royal Family.

"No matter," said the man, whose grin could be felt in each word. He pressed closer and began fumbling around himself. When at last he found what he'd been searching for he let the other go...of course by this time there was no escape.

With a satisfying snap the guard crashed to the floor and the Masked Man continued on. He entered the Audience room with an air of grand victory, and bowed low before the King and Queen of Hyrule. Their young daughter stood shaking behind her father's throne, quivering in fear of this strange man.

"Eferion!" called out the king, hopelessly searching for the Hylian Court Magician, but little did these foolish royals know...the Man they'd welcomed in their home was the very same murderer here tonight.

A low chortle, which transitioned rapidly into wild laughter heralded the man's introduction, as he pulled the demonic mask from his face.

"Yes, Your Majesty. It is I."

"You--!"

"And had you come to this conclusion only two months earlier, I daresay you might have been pleased to execute me at my greatest low. But alas, it comes time for an end, as is the circle of our beloved lives. Your Majesties, it was a pleasure serving you, but Lord Ganon awaits."

Three guards came rushing in, their eyes glazed over with hellish fire, weapons poised at King and Queen.

"Take Princess Zelda to the dungeons...get rid of the rubbish. None survive but the Sage."

Outside a malevolent crack of thunder boomed.

Darkness had come to Hyrule again, indeed.

"The higher up it is dropped, the harder the crash will be; hope is the best spice to bring about despair."

Is...is it snowing? thought the woman, her eyes transfixed on the tiny crystals melting into beads of clear water as they pooled in her palm. She gazed up and saw the skies were in fact changing, and most certainly not for the best. "Since when has snow touched the Sacred Land..." she whispered against the cold stone wall, watching the chaos unfold within the Palace of Hyrule.

Guards were battling guards, friend versus friend... who just earlier today were enjoying one another's company, drinking in common and loyal to the Golden Family. But now, a presence abruptly swooped in and took their happiness away.

She crouched low to the ground and moved along behind the wall, taking in the sights beyond every few steps. Surely the orchestration of this hell would be making their way to the High King. She had little time, and it was growing much too cold already for one of her kind. This would need to be dealt with swiftly.

She made a run for it the moment she reached open space, close as she could to the shadows, and when she found the bloody trail that was Eferion's path, she knew it was only a matter of time.

When she did reach the throne room all hope of stopping this threat had faded. The King lay on the floor before his wife's chair, cradling her dead body in his lap...at least that was the position he'd been left in. A strange Man in a Mask towered over their lifeless forms striking an arrogant pose.

"Damn," seethed the sorceress. She turned to leave, but had made a terrible miscalculation. It turned out that she wasn't the only one lurking in the darkness, and so found that she had been followed by none other than one of the man's spelled guards. He shoved her forward, and before she could crash made a quick move to tumble out into the open.

The man turned, and her eyes met with the large, painted ones of the Masked Man. Its head tilted and she recoiled in shock. The guard was still on her trail, and now the murderer had his sights set.

Thinking quickly, the Sorceress slipped her hand beneath her shawl and produced a handful of black sand, which she tossed about in a circle around her; smoke rose and, after a bright flash of light followed by a crack of thunder, she was gone.

***Off to Escape and Rescue, in Saria Village, in Faron Woods***
